Evaluation 4- how did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluating stages?

Throughout the making of our music video we used many different technologies this was throughout all of the different stages which we completed e.g. research ,planning, production and evaluation process. In this blog  will be discussing the different technologies we used throughout these stages and how they helped in the making of our final products.
Research- throughout the research stages the main piece of technology we used was the macs these allowed us to research everything we need to know to be able to make sure our music video fitted into our genre and was able to find out all of the different information we needed to. The first piece of research which I completed was the genre we decided that we wanted to make a indie pop music video once we had decide this I went on to research this genre this allowed me to create some conventions that i want to add into my video as well as getting to know different elements in the video, the main website i used on the mac to complete this research was youtube I looked at some different indie pop music videos this allowed me to get to know the genre and to see what it was about. I also researched some other music videos the reason I done this was so that I could get to know music videos in general without the link to my music video for example the shot changes and how often this happens I used the mac to do all of this research. we also used the mac to create and send out some questionnaires as we wanted to get to know different information from our target audience and what they like in music videos, to do this we used survey monkey which is a website which allows surveys to made sent and filled out online this was very useful in this research stage. The last piece of information we collected from the internet was the location research we done this so that we could get to know some areas in which we wanted to film in and to also find some different areas which we wanted to film in our research allowed us to get to know the areas so we was more prepared as well ad let us discover new places which we could film in.

Planning-  during our planning stages we wanted to create a visual representation of what we needed to film and how we wanted our end product to look to this therefore we made a storyboard on this we included the different shot we was planning on taking how long we wanted to shot to last and what we wanted to include in the shot. We then went on to make a production schedule, costume list and prop list this was to make sure we was prepared for all of our shouts and filming days we made these tables on PowerPoint so that they were all well organised and together in one place. We also made an Imessage group with Ella our artist in so that we could organise when we would go to film and what Ella needed to wear for these different days and also so Ella was fully aware of what was going on with the filming.
Production- to film or video we used a Nikon d3300 camera this is a very high quality camera with 24 megapixels this allowed us to be able to be get the correct shots we want and also be able to make our video look professional with the professional feel about being given through the camera. Throughout the making of our video we was able to get to know the camera and learn how to use it to a good standard with anything we were unsure of in the becoming clear when using it. There is also a large screen on this camera which makes it easier to review footage and we was able to see what shots we needed got  re-film or change by re watching the shots on the day. Some other apps we used to film our video was Spotify and YouTube we used those off our phones and so we was able to play the music out loud to Ella had something to lip sync to this meant that the lip syncing was more realistic and was easier to add in when editing; we also used our phones to email the different locations that we needed to film at on the day so we could make sure we filmed in all of the different areas.  The software we used to edit our video together was iMovie we used this as we both had previous experience of this software so we was able to understand how it worked and we both knew the basics and the different elements we would have to use to be able to complete our video up to a high standard; we did come across some problems for example when we was trying to include of fast motion section however we was able to fix this issue quickly and get on with our video, we was also able to fix the wonky footage that we took of the projector to make sure that it was still and was easier for the audience to watch.

Evaluation-  once we had finished our final video we decided to upload it onto YouTube and then we promoted our video on various social media accounts for example twitter Instagram and snapchat this allowed our video to be have a lot of access to. We also received some feedback when we made and sent out a survey on survey monkey this meant that we was able to get to know what people thought of our video and we was able to think about what we liked and disliked about video we was also able to think about some changes that we would make if we was able to re-visit our video in the future.

Evaluation 3- what have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Below is a power point presentation for question 3.

Evaluation question 1; in what ways does your media product use, develop and conventions of real media productions?

For our music video we wanted to make sure that it would reach as any different people and audience as possible through doing this we felt our video would have more of an impact, to achieve this we deiced upload our music video to youtube because we felt this would allow a big audience to access it. Youtube is also liked to a lot of different social media sites which allows more access of our video and easier ways to promote of video; also with the access to the other sites will make it more appealing to the younger generations this was our main target audience to by using youtube we was ale to appeal to our audience more. Youtube has been very successful to making many different new artist popular for example  Justin  Bieber this is something we would hope for our artist.

For our music video we wanted to make sure that our video fitted the conventions of an indie music video, we wanted to do this through the narrative and mise en scene that we presented throughout our video we felt that these two elements were the most key elements to achieving this in our video. for our narrative we wanted to create the idea that Ella was on a date and the video was form the male she was on the date pov while adding more depth with her watching there relationship and reminiscing while the projector parts are playing,; we felt that displaying a love story as well as having different complications being shown as well was a very common in indie music videos and the song we choose allowed us to portray this very well. The mise en scene in our music was also something that we focused on when thinking about the conventions of the music video, we felt that the costume in which we used would help to create the artist as a whole; we choose to have Ella in a very fashionable outfit with the ripped jeans and brands that she was wearing she had a Calvin Klein  sports top on this brand is very as upmarket and is very expensive so this helped create a more view of her while still fitting into the indie look of the video she was also wearing Jordan shoes these are also a expensive brand and very in trend so make sure that Ella is on trend.

A convention that we subverted in our music video was the locations that we used we didn't create a sense of mystery through out location this is something which is often done in indie music videos, we sued very bright and natural setting or our video as well as making it clear that the date was being held in London; however we formed a sense of mystery  through not completely showing the male who she is of the date with the viewing audience get to meet the male through the projection on the females body which is used during the date scenes this is to make sure that the audience are aware of the male character but never fully meet him we felt this reinforced the idea of superficial love ad helped to adhere to the convection of mystery in indie music videos.

We also added a couple of different editing techniques to make sure that our video emphasised the idea of love and to back up the narrative of the video one of the main ways we done this was to add a lot of short shots one after another when the song became faster i feel that this added to the idea of confusion because of the fast shot movements; as well as this we used some slow motion shots this was to reinforce the idea of confusion and to also create the idea of there relationship being a daze and not how Ella is trying to make it seem to the audience.

When making our magazine advert we wanted to keep to the conventions of indie artist while making sure that our advert was different and stood out amongst different adverts, we wanted the main focus of or advert to be on the image of the artist rather than the writing was going on around her this is why we choose to use very basic writing and not much of it, we found that this was very common in indie averts because the main focus is normally on the artist. For our advert we wanted the cur to come from the image of Ella with what she is wearing an the background which is being shown this is why we used black for the writing as we didn't want to add any extra colours this was also to make sure that the image was the main focus. the mise en scene we used in for our advert was very indie with Ella displaying different conventions with how she is wearing her hair and the clothes she is wearing Ella had hair in space buns this is something that this a out coming trend and is becoming more popular; she has also tied her top up which shows her stomach off this is something that may appeal to the males, the final element of Ella's outfit which makes her fit the indie artist look is the choker this adds extra colour an smaller detailing. we also deiced to use full body shot for our image this was because we felt that it would allow the audience to get to know Ella and the way she looks better, this is very common on indie artist adverts. The final element which I feel helps to fit into our target audience is the social media signs at the bottom this makes the audience get to know and feel more involved with Ella and with social media being such a big element to the teenagers this will make the artist appeal more to them .

The final thing we made was our digipak for this we made the look very basic and plain with the idea of indie still pulled in through what the artist is wearing and the font which we used around her. We wanted Ella to be the main focus of the digipak to do this we made the background black and white however we kept Ella in colour we felt this helped to draw attention to Ella also it makes the cover look more professional and throughout. With the mise en scene for this digipak we wanted to keep to the costume very basic with the colours being plan and simple to go with the black and white background as well as making sure she fitted the indie look with the choker. The colours we choose to use were also very plain only adding on colour onto it we done this so that the colour and the writing did not take away form the artist but still stood out the reason we choose this pink was because when researching different colours that are attached to  indie digpaks were very simple and basic colours so we wanted to stick to this convention.

Test shots-ancillary texts

Here are some shots that we took when we was getting different images for our magazine advert and our digipak for these two things we wanted different elements to be incorporated for the different things for example we wanted more colour in the magazine shot to make sure that we could keep the writing and added elements onto the picture without having to add extra colouring onto it as well, however for the digipak we wanted more basic colours and backgrounds so that we could add the colour in with the writing. we decided  to have different outfits for the two different shots because we wanted the two ancillary texts to look different and have different vibe about them but still have some similarities  to do this we added chokers into both outfits and made sure that both outfits had cropped t-shirts Incorporated in both shots.

Behind the scene- London day 2

For our second filming day we went with ore of a plan and knew exactly what shots we need and what area of London we wanted to go to, we filmed first on the train we wanted to get shots of Ella on the train so that we set the scene  of the video and made sure that the audience were able to understand that Ella was going to meet someone it the male in London we also get some shots of Ella painting her nails and made sure there this was a feature in the video with her showing her nails throughout the video we wanted this to become a feature and the reason we choose red was to display this throughout and keep a theme of this in the video.
The first place we went to was back to Nottinghill we knew that we needed to re film some of the original shots as well and get some more shots of Ella being natural in the the area as well as some more shots of Ella walking around the are we wanted to do this to make sure that it was clear whereabouts the date had started off; we then went on to film her in the tube station we wanted to get this shot so that we could establish  that Ella had meet her  in London and at a train station we felt that this would be effective to making sure that they are aware she has meet the male.
we then went on to film some different shots of Ella lip syncing we fond some places in which we felt fit our music video o film in front of one of the places we filmed was a pink hose we felt the pink would it well into our music video and made a good background we also filmed in a natural area this was to make sure it fit into the theme of our video aso filmed some lip syncing on south bank with big Ben in the background we felt that this would make sure that the audience were aware of where the date was located and where about they had travelled. The final shots we took was in tube we wanted to keep the continuation of the fact Ella was travelling around London on the date and to reinforce the fact that they were in London as the tube is a very London scene.

Behind the scene- Projector

For this part of our video we wanted to create the idea that Ella was watching her own relationship through her eyes and seeing the true superficial love we also wanted the male character to be introduced without the male being in the video fully this is why we deiced to use a projector and project onto Ella's body with her lip syncing the words of the song. For this we used a blank background,a projector and pictures that Ella already had of herself and her boyfriend, we used images that we felt would make sure the audience could get to know the male as well as show them in a loving relationship. When filming this scene we played he song out loud so Ella was able to sing along to the song and we could get the lip syncing correct.
Once we had filmed the first lot of shot with Ella lip syncing we decided  to re-visit this idea and have Ella from different perceptive we wanted to do this so that we could reinforce the idea that she was watching the relationship and we also wanted to add different images in so that it was obvious that it was a long term relationship with the couple growing together, we filmed Ella from each side of her the font and back we doesn't this so that the audience not only gt to know Ella but get to now the images which are being shown behind her and become aware of her watching the picture. Another part we filmed was Ella moving around we done this with the intention of editing this into fast motion and showing Ella moving around very quickly almost frantically we felt that this would make sure that the audience are aware that he relationship is not healthy and she may be watching it looking happy she is finally seeing it for what it really is with her forcing the relationship to be a good one.

Behind the scene- London day 1

We completed our first filming day in loon we went to London without much of a plan we knew the different shots we wanted to achieve for or video however we didn't  plan where about we was gong to go in London or what shots we were going to get the reason we done this was we wanted or video to look spontaneous we also knew and had planned another filming day in London this meant that we was able to plan this trip more  once we knew what shots we needed to finish our video off.the first place we knew we wanted to get shots from was Nottinghill this was a place that we had done a lot of research on and we felt would fit our music video very well. Once we reached Nottinghill we stated to film some natural shot of Ella walking down the street as well as some lip syncing shots this was to get a feel of our first setting. Some complication that we found when we was filming in Nottinghill was the amount of people who were there we found that this was an issue because some of our shots were ruined wit  people walking in front of the camera this ruined a lot o our shots and was something that we didn't think much about before filming.

After we went to Nottinghill we went on to Wimbledon this is somewhere that Ella knew very well this was one of the main reasons we felt it would be good to film here as Ella was bale to direct us to places where she felt would look good and would fit into our music video as we wanted it to almost be from her perceptiveness and by doing areas she knew she as able to have more of an input about where she would genuinely  go on a date.  in Wimbledon we found a lot different natural places to film we wanted this to be an element d our video to make sure there was different parts if the date being shown, we decided to film lot of natural; shots of of Ella walking around with the 'date ' being shown to be behind he, the rea we film in was quite and there was lot of different paces around it for us to film in we stayed and filmed in Wimbledon for a few hours and got the majority of our natural shots filmed with me extra lip syncing that we felt would fit into our music video.

The last few shots we got o this day was in the tube station we wanted it to be clear that Ella was in London and that they were travelling from place to place on the tube we felt that the tube is a very British and stereotypical to London and would therefore fit into out music video and help to make sure that the audience were aware of what was going on and would help to create the narrative of the video.
