Magazine research

For our publication of our artist we have looked into some different magazines in which we would be able to post an advert for our singers album in, we water to research different magazines which would appeal tour target audience which was 16-20 years old this age group is quite a wide age group so need to condor a lot of different magazine types.

The first magazine we reached was teen vogue this is a extremely popular magazine and holds many different famous faces as there covers and is one of the best selling's magazines in terms of teen magazines. with publishing our advert in this magazine would allow us to reach out to large audience size due to the huge amount of readers. This magazine also fits our look very well with having many different indie people having cover shots on this magazine, this means our advert would fit well in this magazine. Another reason this magazine would fit our advert in is because of the amount of adverts which are in this magazine so our advert would fit in to the magazine however a negative of this could be that our advert may not be very noticeable because of how many adverts there is so we would have to make sure that our advert stands out among all of the other adverts . I also found that with this magazine often presented women in a positive way with very minimal skin being shown and sense of dignity being kept for all of the models which are being shown on the front, they also only use very basic makeup and hair to make sure that the main focus is on the models beauty rather than what she is wearing and what she has changed about herself. the colours in this magazine are also very girly and are made to appeal to the female gender, they use pink quite a lot which is often attached to females as well as this the background are often very calm basic colours which appeal largely to females.
Seventeen is another magazine which we found while we was researching different magazines in which are popular to our target audience which we are focusing on for our video this magazine has a lot of famous and popular faces inside and include many different popular elements, we feel that our artist ruth b would fit into this magazine because she has an edgy but very fashionable look about her this is something which is very prominent in this magazine with many fashion icons being in it. We want our artist to have an edgy and indie look about her while making her simple makeup and hair being her trademark we want this to be her trademark because we want our artist to be looked up to and be seen as a role model, we feel that this could encourage girls to wear less makeup and to look natural this magazine we feel will fit our artist and her advert for the new single. this magazine uses much more

The last magazine that I researched was a more upmarket magazine that would cater for our older target audience the other two magazine i found were focused very heavily at the teenagers of our target audience however the image of this magazine is more grown up with it being more about beauty then celebrity gossip it this is something that we would want our artist to be about as we feel that she would have more of a positive outlook on her audience and fans, this magazine promotes a more positive outlook so with our advert being part of this magazine she would be able to be display herself in a positive way.

We went on to interview some of our target audience to make sure that we target our advert well to the audience and to make sure that it is appealing to the audience. We asked 5 people 5 question regarding 5 different elements of a advert, the 5 questions which we asked were; what colours appeal to you on a magazine? Do you look at the makeup and clothes the artist is wearing? What are the main features you look at on the advert? What are the main type of magazines you read? What do you feel makes a magazine appealing? We found from these question that the most popular type of magazine was gossip magazine where or target audience felt like they got to know the artist more, we also found out that one of the main features that the audience look at when looking at a magazine advert was the image that was being presented and the colours  they also felt that this two things should link and work well together so that they give a good overall look for the advert, we also found out that our audience find the picture and what the picture is presenting is something that makes the advert more exciting so when we make our advert I feel that we should focus on the advert we take rather than the writing around the image; from the information we found out we was able to make sure that we catered our magazine advert to fit into what the audience want to see. After we asked these questions we looked into what different advert included we found that a lot of the indie pop adverts were very basic showing little colour and making sure that the main focus was the image which was being used and the artist themselves this is something we want to achieve with our advert, we also found that they were all a bit edgy and grungy we felt that this was a very effective look and was something we wanted to look into with our music video.

Below I have attached mine and Tia’s draft magazine adverts we both panned and added our own draft adverts this was so that we both had ideas what we wanted to include and so we was able to see some ideas and knew what we both liked and didn’t, we choose what image we was going to use together before we made our final. On my draft I wanted to keep t very basic with the font being in black the reason I done this was because I wanted the main focus and colours to be on the image rather than on the font that has been added I also used quite edgy font this made sure that it had a indie feel about it , I also feel that the clothes that Ella is wearing in the magazine advert are very indie and make the advert stand out well;  Tia added the font in a pink colour this was something we went on to decide against because we felt that although it looked good on the draft we wanted to keep the main one more basic and plain to make sure the image pops however we liked the fact that Tia positioned the font at the top of the advert so that that the audience are able to identify Ella straight away and it also makes sure it is clear.

Lip sync

Here is a video where we practised our lip syncing so that we was able to get our lip-syncing correct in our music video, during this editing we occurred some problems that will help us to know what to do in our music video and we also picked up on some skills that we plan to use when editing our music video. The first problem we found was that ella's lipsycing in some of the different shots we got were out of time and didn't fit into the song correctly so we had to find other shots to use, to fix this problem while filing by making sure that we film the same shot a couple of times so we have more than one option when it comes to adding it into the video. We also found that ella over emphasis her m and b's this is something we can advice ella to not do need time we film and we can also show ella the videos of her from the lip-syncing so she can see what she is doing and practise for the next time we film. The last issues we had during the editing of this was that it took us a long time to make sure that when we are editing our video we leave enough time to be able to edit the lip-syncing into the video well. However we did learn how to add the lip-syncing in correctly and were able to practise making sure that the timing was correct this was something we struggled with in the beginning but soon picked up and we will now be able to use this skill when editing our film.

Storyboard

here have inserted pictures of our storyboard we made this storyboard so that we knew when editing and filming why different shots to add in to the video and so that we could make sure that timing is correct in the filming. On our storyboard we added the basic plot onto it so that we know what is going on with the

Here i have displayed our storyboard this is where we made our first idea of how we wanted our video to look these ideas were our initial thoughts and we feel these may change once we have been out filming and have the different shots, however we plan to make sure that we take this storyboard with us to our filming days so that we know what shots we need and it will make it easier to plan our days out of filming. on this storyboard we added in the different timings of the shots we need so that when we edit it all together we know how long the shots we are adding in should be and so that we know we have all of the music video filmed and added in. Another feature of our storyboard was the shot type that we want to use we did this so that we can ensure that our music video has a good variation of shots and we have included all of the different shot types. We added in the costume on the storyboard as well s that we could make sure that ella is wearing the correct outfit for the different shots and to make sure we are aware of what she is wearing in the different shots this is the same for any props that we will be using during out filming. We will be using out storyboard to help us edit as well as it will give us a basic plan to work off and know roughly where we want all of our different shots and scenes to be in the video.

Location research

We looked at 3 different locations in which we planned to film our music video these 3 areas are going to be the main settings for our music video, the three locations we picked out was London, riverside and darlands we want to use different locations between these locations such as a train station and a park however these locations are fairly basic and can be filmed in a short period of time without much planning.
The first place we want t film is London this is a large place so we decided to research smaller parts of London where we can get good shots and that will fit the look we want to go for in our video the first place we found was Notting hill we felt this would fit our look and it seemed not be very busy which would allow us to film and not get distracted by other pubic walking round. We also plan to film in Wimbledon we feel this area is more of a calm area and is somewhere we feel will look appealing to the audience and is very much a place where someone could take a date, one we had done some research into Wimbledon we cane across stanmer house this is someone with a lot of land and wooded area which we felt would fit into our video very well the area was calm which would make our filming easier as there wouldn't be many people around to interrupt our filming. we also want to include one place in London which is very traditional and will make it obvious to the audience that we are in London for this we want to film on tower bridge this is a very classic and most people are aware of this bridge being in London so it would do the job of letting the audience know where we are; the only negative of this is that the bridge may be busy which would make filming hard so we should plan he correct time to go and film to make filming easier on ourselves.

The next location we thought about was riverside his is a country park and is often very quiet we plan to film a walking scene where the actress is shown to be walking along with her date, this area is calm and scenic so we felt would be perfect for filming we also would be able to film different shots in this area as there is many different settings, we also want to film here at different times of the day so that we can get different effects from the sun light for example the sun setting and rising.

The final place where we have researched and considered is an art gallery we found a few that we liked the look of and that we felt would fit in well with out music video these are ;Camden art centre this is very edgy and includes a lot of contemporary art this is something which we felt would fit in our video as we are trying to achieve  an indie look for our video so this would help with this, Camden art centre is very edgy and has lots of different element to it with different arts being shown . Another art gallery we found was graham fine art gallery this is gallery has only fine art pieces displayed on the wall this makes the art gallery simple and calm this is a contrast to the first gallery which is quite vibrant this contrast would be effective as it shows two different art types.

Props list

This is our prop list this will help us to ensure that we remember to take everything and know what we need for all the different locations.

Production schedule

This table shows when are are planning to film and what equipment we will need to take us when we go including the equipment and different props we will need;  we also have added in who is needed for the different shots.

Institutional resarch

The first record label we researched was the company Island Records UK and it was founded in 1959 and is still lasting 57 years. We considered this to be one of our record labels because of the artists that they have signed artists such as Ben Howard and the band Catfish and the Bottlemen. They have signed US artists such as Ariana Grande and rapper Nicki Minaji. We thought this company would be good because all have been successful in their work, with Ariana and Nicki winning award shows and have platinum albums. While Ben Howard and Catfish have been successful here in the UK and people enjoy the alternative style of music.

Aftermath Entertainment is a record label which was founded in 1996 and we won't be considering this because the record's main focus is R&B artists and in our genre of music is indie. Artists include Kendrick Lamar, Eminem and 50 Cent, we noticed that there wasn't many current girls signed to this company so that is another factor in why we wont be choosing Aftermath Entertainment because our artists will be a girl.

The record company we have chosen for our record label is XL Recordings and it is an independent English company which was founded in 1989. The artists which have been a part of the record company is Adele. However, she has now joined the record label company Colombia. Adele is a worldwide star and is known by everyone and for Adele to start her platform with XL because it shows they can produce good stars that become global. The record label has also signed artists like M.I.A and she has been charted for her songs on the Billboard Hot Dance Singles in the US.

Test shots of possible artist

Here is some test shots of Ella she is one of our potential actors for our music video we took some basic photos. Ella fits the image we are want to achieve for our video, her fashion sense fits well with how want our actor to dress she is very fashionable so we will be able to use her outfits for our music videos. She also enjoys hair and makeup so therefore she know what works for her skin colour and type this will be very handy when we are filming as it means she will be able to do her own hair and makeup on the days of filming.  Ella is very photogenic and is very comfortable around the camera this will make filming easy as we will be able to film natural and set up shots. Ella is or final choice of actor she has all the different   features we are looking for and            our schedules work well together so we will be able to film on a regular basis and get all of our filming done quickly.

Mikah is our next potential actor here are her test shots . Her imagine fits the type of actress we are looking or as she is very photogenic and is very confident in front of the camera; she also has a good fashion sense which would make dressing her for our video very easy, her long black hair would be a key feature to her look and we would be able to use this in our video as a trademark. The reason we will not be choosing Mikah is because her work commitment clashes with mine meaning that filming would become very hard to fit in.

Andrew Goodwin's theory

Andrew  Goodwin  came up with a theory that everyone expects to see 5 different elements in a music video these 5 things are;- 1. Thought beats- seeing the sound 2. relationship between narrative and the performance 3.Stars trade marks   4. multiple close ups of the main star 5. Technical aspects; these 5 elements are all very common in music videos.
The first element is thought beats this is when the shots changes on everyone few beats on one specific beat each time this is effective to making the video flow more. an example where this has been used effectively in an music video is 'into you' by Ariana Grande this video is slow starting and uses thought beats in the beginning part so that the audience starts to picture the different shots, this helps to add to the beat and make the beat more noticeable to the audience.

The next feature of a music video is the relationship between narrative and performance this is when the this helps to add to the make the video flow through the different scenes because it allows the two different elements seem similar and work together better a video where this is effectively shown in Beyoncé best thing I never had, this shows the difference between performance and narrative as she swaps between the two and still makes the video flow well.

The third element is the star trade mark this is where the artist themselves have one thing which they are known for and everyone is able to identify them from this trade mark one very key example of this is Sia she hides her identity to make sure that people listen to her for her music rather than her image; she is either seen in a wig which covers her face fully, she also has a young girl who dances and wears a similar wig so that the trademark is carried on this is shown in the music video is chandelier the young girl as the actor with the statement wig on.

The next element is the close up of the main star this allows the audience to feel like they know the artist more as they get more up close and personal shots of the artist this is something to make the audience feel more engaged in the video; this is used very well in the music video send my love by adele this is a very simple video with only a black background with adele being the main focus they zoom into her face very regularly to make the video feel more intimate.

The last element which should be present in a music video is the technical aspects this will allows the video to look more professional and often makes the video work/flow better as a whole. one video which is a very good example of this is Justin Bieber -what do you mean this uses the editing to make the video more interesting and engaging some elements they had added was the shot changes theses were very quick making the video fast pace another element is the different effects added on this allows the video to be more interesting as it gives the audience more to look at.

Initial ideas

Here is a video where you can hear us discussing our first initial ideas and what each of us was thinking about possible ideas we found that all 3 of our ideas were very similar and the concepts of the tree ideas linked well together so we will use all 3 concepts and combine them into one so our final idea is to have a female on a date with a mystery man as the male character will not feature in the video throughout the day she will seem low and seem to be making all the effect and continuously wanting more from there relationship so is always wanting to make more of there date. We considered all of the different ideas and have thought about the particularity of the three ideas and found that we wanted to film in London with the female actor being on the date this is easy to assess; as well as a day in London we will film around Rainham to give the effect that there is more than one date and as if the problems have been happening for a while, we will then end it with the female alone with the sun setting behind her to give a slow and calm ending to show her ending the relationship as well as the song.
We also considered the different ideas that we researched and found out from Andrew Goodwin's theory this allowed us to decide different features and things we want to include form doing this research one of the main things we decided while discussing our initial ideas was the trademark we wanted our character to have this was her to have backpack in a lot of this video and would go on to have this backpack in further videos; this would add to her fashion and the outlook we want her to give. something else we discussed was how was going to be the narrative and performance will go together we decided that we would have our actor wearing different outfits but in similar settings for the two different features this would allow the two scene to seem to fit together and flow better. We also have decided we want to add a lot of close up shots so that the audience get to know our actress and feel more of a connection to her.

Analyse of student video

I have watched and researched some other student’s a2 music videos so that I can get ideas and can form some opinions if other people work to be able to improve my own video when I come to making and editing my video. One music video which I felt was a very good example of music video I was; this video has demonstrated very key features to a music video and I fund many positives during this music video which I felt could help me for my video.
The first key feature which is noticed straight away while watching this video was the camera angles these was a good variety of shots from the beginning of the video this made the video interesting and stand out from the start. One of the main shots which I noticed and thought was very effective in the beginning of the video was a long shot which showed a time lap of the sun rise I thought the mix of the editing and shot used was very effective as it set the scene of the video and also allowed the video to have a slow start which fitted with the pace of the song very well.  Another shot which I thought was very effective and added to the video was a close up shot of a male character wrapping his hands in some sort of cloth this gave the impression of danger with the shot being so close up it added to this effect of danger; another element in this shot which helped to add to the idea of danger was the face the cloth was red this colour is often associated with blood, fear and tension so by using this colour it adds and causes more fear upon the audience.  An angle which was very effective in making the audience feel and understand the emotions which the male character is showing was a mid-shot this was used while the male character was performing and seemed to be showing much emotions such as anger, upset and disbelief this is very evident and the use of a mid-shot helps the audience gain this opinion as they can see the full movement of his upper body which is moving very a lot and at a fast pace.
The editing of one of the main feature which stood out to me while watching this video it was very well put together and keep the audience interested through making the video very fast pace with a lot of chopping between different shots with still having the feel of it flowing throughout this which mostly achieved with the editing. The first editing I noticed was the time laps I mentioned in my first point this was very well fitted into the scene through integrating it between the sunset and introducing the characters through cutting between the two shots this was very effective and was very well placed in the beginning of the video as it helped set the scene and make the slower paced piece of music more interesting and make sure that it didn’t seem boring or too slow.  Another key editing feature used effectively was the fast cuts between different scenes this helps to keep the audience engaged and means that the video seems shorter to the audience as there is more for them to view; this was very effectively used as all of the scene fitted together and didn’t jump to much or too fast between different scenes. I also noticed the darkness of the music video during the scene where the characters were lip syncing to the song this seemed to be edited in and gave the music video more of an edgy feel it also made the danger more apparent to the audience this is something which was adding in throughout the video from different elements and made gave the video an extra element to it.
The final feature which I felt was very key to making the music video very effective was the mise en scene used throughout; the settings used were very successful with adding to the theme of the video is helped to add suspension and danger element to the video one of the main ways in the video was in the fight scene where two male character are seen jumping a stranger this scene used a lot of cross cutting this was very key to adding suspension to the scene it also made the scene come across hectic. Another very key element of editing was the lighting which was added in to the lip syncing scenes these made the characters appear to have shadows and different lighting on them to add to the idea of danger and the unknowing because the audience is never fully shown what is happening in the background of the scene this is very effective to adding danger.

Analyse of students work

After analysing a very positive a2 music video I decide to watch and research some lower grade a2 videos so that I can understand went wrong with different videos and how they could have improved the video so that I can learn from this. One video I felt I could learn from was; . This video demonstrates some negative feature which I would want to avoid during my video and this blog is going to explain the negatives I have noticed.
The first features I noticed was the mise en scene the first impression of this was that there hadn’t been much attention paid to it this as because it seemed to be very basic. During the opening scene of the music video the lighting was very dim and didn’t seem to have been considered during the making with only natural lighting being used meaning that the characters were not clear this could have been fixed by adding additional lighting to the room. As well as the lighting the costume the character were wearing didn’t add to the video and seemed to not have been considered this could have been so that the character seemed natural to the environment they are in however  feel they could have added to their characters by giving them a fashion which stands out. The settings used also were very basic and seemed very amateur they used a bedroom and what seemed to be old pub these setting are available to everyone and did not add to the video.
The editing used was very amateur and didn’t seem to have much time spent on it they used very simple movements and changes between shots this could have been more effective if the camera work was more professional looking the camera work looks very hand held and this alongside the basic editing made the video seem very amateur. The cutting between the shots were very sharp and quick this made the video feel very bitty as there was a lot of changes without a constant flow between the different shots in the video. Another editing feature which I felt wasn’t very effective was the fade between the shots this made the two scenes flow better however I feel that the use of a fade wasn’t very professional and made the video seem very basic as it is a very simple editing skill I feel they could have used something to make this look better while making the video flowing.
The least feature which noticed was the camera angles and shots that were used I felt that this video didn’t use a wide range of shots and used a mid-shot very frequently this made the video quite boring and straightforward as there wasn’t that variation between shots which is seen in most music professional music videos. Another shot used was a close up of a wound on the male characters face this was quite effect as it showed danger which was a key theme throughout the video however I would say a extreme close up would be better used in this video as it would have help to add extra into the video by making the danger element more extreme.  The last shot which I noticed was the low angle shot used during the fight scene this would have been more effective if the shot wasn’t so unsteady and flipped between two different hots to show a variation to add to the rush that is happening during the fight between the two male characters and to show some more complex angles of the fight so that the audience feels more involved with the video and can see different elements of the fight.

First three logo designs

Here I have demonstrated 4 logo ideas that as a group we designed; we decided to have a verity of names involved with out logo making so that we could have a variety of choices when it comes to making our final decisions. we each made up a name and then found a picture which we felt suited the name and fitted our indie genre. After this we then as a group decide the one that suited the genre the best we all were agreed on this; the main reason for our choice was due to the fact it gave a edgy feel to our company and allowed the audience to get a feel for our company instantly. During this process of making our logo we completed some research on some of the different indie record labels which we felt would to give us the inspiration for our own label logo; we found some images which helped to inspire us with making our logo (these images are shown below) these two images we found ere very basic and had a edgy feel to them this was something we wanted to achieve with our logo this is one of the main reasons we choose twist as our final logo choice.

Target audience

Here I have shown a mood board to show the different areas in which I feel our target audience would enjoy doing and experiences. We decied our target audience was 18-25 year old women we decided this as we felt that she would be able to relate best to this group of people which would make it easy for her to produce music and aim her music to this group of people; this age group may also have had similar experiences to her so she can make her music to cater to this. I have added some of the shops that would stereotypical be popular with the target audience would shop in; this gives an idea of there style and fashion.I also added the films and tv shows to show the type of interest that they have ; i also added the makeup and food restaurants to show more interest that the target audience may have.

First ideas mood board

Here is a mood board to show my first thoughts and idea on what i feel our character in our music video will look like and the type of style we want to demonstrate in our video while making sure that it represents the indie pop genre which we are focusing on for our video. I have shown he type of makeup and hair I want to be on my character i have chosen very plain and basic hair so that the main focus is on her emotions i have also chosen very simple but in style items for the actress to wear so that they fit the style of music.

First inspirations mood board

Here I have inserted a mood board to demonstrate my first thoughts and idea upon choosing the genre of indie pop. these photos demonstrate the different thoughts that i have when i think of the indie genre ; the photos all show quite edgy and alternative ideas with the idea of live music and art running throughout the pictures this is to demonstrate the artistic   side to indie music.

Analysis of R&B

The idea of r and b music came around in the 1940s with the influence of jazz, pop and blues music this genre of music developed through the merging of these sounds this mostly occurred in the America and has moved globally over a long period of time. R and b songs show a lot of emotions and most songs involve a sexual element the two main themes of r and b songs are either love or some sort of heartbreak these allows the artist to show high levels of emotions. Some r and b artist include ne yo, drake, Chris brown, r Kelly and Kanye west; these artist have all become famous through making and expanding the r and b genre. I have watched a few music videos for r and b artist and have found there are many conventions of r an b music videos from the audio to the visual of the video; some of the main conventions in which found in all the videos I watched was the dance element and the sexualizing of females in the videos with females often showing a lot of skin, while the males are often covered up.
The first video which I felt demonstrated a large range of conventions for r and b is Alicia keys- no one(2007). One of the main features which are shown in the music video is the idea of females being used and shown as a sexual object this follows the idea of Laura Mulvey's Male gaze Theory. Throughout the video Alicia is shown with a lot of skin on show and is also shown performing in a very sexual manor this shows her venerability also which is a very key convention in r and b music videos it is also very fitting to the song lyrics as she is singing about love and heartbreak; her being shown as being in love may be viewed as her showing her vulnerability as she is visibly upset and in a unsure state which helps to secure the idea of this.  The idea of females being sexual objects is very stereotypical as males expect females to show there availability by showing their skin as well as being sexual objects for the public however on contrast to this females are expected to be demure and calm also as they are viewed as mother figures they are expected to do both roles and this is demonstrated in the music video as Alicia is shown in a sexual way however is singing about heartbreak which is viewed as being vulnerable.  As well as the idea of Alicia is shown in a very vulnerable way in the beginning of the video however is shown was confident towards the end this shows a very key contrast; this could be as women are often expected to show both these qualities as males like the idea of being in control of the female as they are seen as under them however when she shows the confidence at the end it shows she is adhering and subverting the stereotypes.

Another video which shows very key conventions is the song so sick ne-yo (2009) this music video shows very conventional as the song lyrics are very negative and are very similar to blue lyrics which is the whole basis of r&b music. The music video shows a different predictive from the first video as it is a male singer rather than the female singer; this helps to show different conventions which r&b videos follow. The first thing which subverts the stereotype of males in general is the idea that the male is showing his heartbreak and venerability however this is not normally the emotions which males show as they are expected to be masculine and to not show to much emotions so that they can fulfil this stereotype so by ne-yo showing his upset and anger at the breakup goes against this stereotype and shows an alternative side to males. Another convention which is subverted during the music video is the cutting from shot to shot the shots were cut very slowly compared to must r&b music videos and the shots were all very different from each other which help to reinforce the idea that the video is trying to subvert the normal editing stereotypes of quick cuts but with similar shots. However the costume which ne-yo is wearing is very stereotypical of something that would be seen during a r&b music video as he is shown wearing big oversized clothes and one of the key features which he is shown wearing quite frequently is fur this shows his wealth this is something which is very common in r&b music videos as the artist is normally worth a lot of money so would want to show this ne-yo has done this through his costume. Something else which is a very key feature to creating the r&b video is the representation of the female character she is shown in a very stereotypical way with lots of skin being shown and through this being shown as a sexual object of the male; in the music video so sick ne-yo is shown fulling clothed throughout the whole video this is contrasted by the female who is shown in underwear on many occasions this is so the female becomes/comes across as desirable to the male audiences this could make the video become more popular to the male audiences; another reason for the female being shown in minimal clothing is that it gives off the idea that females are vulnerable and the males are often in control of the situations these views and opinions are very often portrayed in music videos.

Another more recent r&b music video is Chris brown back to sleep (2016) this video shows the conventions which are being presented to us in the most recent day and shows the development which has happened since the first two videos. This video like the other two uses the female as a sexual object and shows the male as dominant in the situations in the music video for back to sleep this applies very heavily and he whole concept of the video evolves around the idea of sex this has become much more common and frequent in r&b music videos in current day; one of the main thing which shows the male dominance over the female in this video is the clothing they are both wearing the male is fully dressed whereas the female is shown in only underwear the male is therefore viewed in a normal manner however with the female being only in her underwear she is shown in a very sexual and vulnerable state as she is so exposed and is showing so much of her body. Something else which shows the males control over the female is the idea that the male is always on top of the female in the first scene where both male and female are shown the male is stood on the floor with his hand around the female and the female has no control over the situation as the female is unable to move or to leave the situation as the male is stood over her. This video doesn’t have much of a narrative and also has an element of performance this is very common in music videos it allows the artist to showcase here performance ability while still keeping he audience interested in the video this video therefore adheres to these stereotypes which are presented.Another key feature which helps to adhere and subvert stereotypes is the camera angles and editing that is used throughout the cutting between shots very quickly this is very common in r&b music videos as the songs are often very fast pace and this is therefore often presented in the music video as well; it also allows the artist to show many different areas and different experiences throughout the video.
